How to Apply for Vietnam Visa for Chinese

At the moment, all Chinese passport holders are required to obtain a valid visa to visit Vietnam for any purpose, from holidays to business. And there are two ways to obtain a Vietnam visa for Chinese depending on how they get to Vietnam and where they depart for the country. These ways are:

1. Apply for Vietnam visa Vietnam visa on arrival

Holders of China passports can apply for Vietnam visa on arrival if they travel to Vietnam by air from a country or territory other than China Mainland.

What is Visa on Arrival?

Vietnam visa on arrival is a process of obtaining the letter of approval through a travel agency in Vietnam to check in at the departure airport and pick up the actual visa stamp at an international airport in Vietnam upon arrival.

How to obtain Visa on arrival?

The process of getting a visa on arrival is quite simple and includes the following simple steps:

Get Vietnam visa quickly, easily and cheaply

  1. Apply online for an approval letter, which may take 2 working days (for tourist visa) or 7 working days (for business visa) in case of normal processing, or 4 working hours or 2 working days respectively in case of super urgent processing.
  2. Pay for Service fee online
  3. Receive the approval letter by email and print a hard copy. Prepare 2 passport sized photos, your passport (must be valid for at least 6 months at time of entry) and stamping fee in cash.
  4. Present all above mentioned documents to get your visa stamp upon arrival at an international airport in Vietnam (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Nha Trang and Da Nang).

This application does not require any travel at all. However it is for Chinese citizens traveling to Vietnam by air from a foreign country outside the China Mainland.

For Chinese who travel to Vietnam by air from the China Mainland, or travel to Vietnam by other means of transport, or those wish to obtain a full visa before departure, the following option is recommended.

2. Apply for Vietnam visa in Vietnam Embassy

This is the traditional way of obtaining a visa for Vietnam. It normal procedure is as follows:

  1. Travel to the embassy and wait there to submit visa application documents;
  2. Pay for visa fee after being confirmed all required documents are received;
  3. Come back home and wait;
  4. Travel again to the embassy on the appointment date to receive visa and passport back.

This whole process may take 5-7 working days for tourist visa and longer duration for business visa. The processing time and visa fee are not clearly published by need to be directly consulted with the embassy.
